The first On Your Side data report is here

The first UK-wide support and reporting service for ESEA communities who experience racism and/or hate has been in operation for nearly nine months. We are so grateful to everyone that has helped raise awareness about the service, and to everyone that has trusted the service with their own experiences.

As part of our commitment to raising awareness about and prevention of racism and hate experienced by ESEA communities, we will be publishing anonymised, aggregated data each quarter to help build a UK-wide picture. This data outlines how many incidents have been reported to OYS, the types of incidents that have occurred, and provides demographic information on those targeted. We are pleased to have now released the first such report covering the first 6 months of service operation from 9 August 2022 – 31 January 2023. Find the data report here.

We know that reporting incidents of racism and/or hate and seeking support is not easy. There has been a distinct historical lack of support services for East and Southeast Asian communities in the UK. Many communities also feel a social stigma attached to reporting and seeking help, so a lot of work needs to be done to rebuild trust with communities. We are proud that in our first few months, so many people trusted On Your Side and have chosen to speak to us out about their experience.

However, this data report is only the tip of the iceberg. There is still so much we need to do to raise awareness about the service and the support that it can offer. We’re really proud to be able to offer this service to our communities, but we still need your help to spread the word.

Keep a look out for the February – April data which we will be releasing in the coming weeks.
